For our first lesson we are exploring Governor Tom McCall and the time period that he was in office in Oregon. I really think he helped shape modern day Oregon during this time period. Our first day involves using the internet to do some research on Gov. McCall's background, some of his accomplishments as a politician and to paint a picture of the context of the times (late 1960's -1970's).
Here are some major things that we will be covering:
- The Beach Bill
- The Bottle Bill
- Vortex I
- Land Planning in Oregon
- The birth of modern day Oregon
Questions to ask yourself:
- What is the political climate of this time period?
- What war is America knee deep in at this time?
- Thanks to many of the developments of this time, we think of Oregon as an environmental leader. What is the environmental climate like in America at this time?

This blog will serve as a way to make class information available outside of the school day. I'll post assignments, links to documents and possible extension activities. If you forget over the weekend what is coming up, you can always check here. If you are absent, you can check out this blog for updates on what is happening in class.
